Montour County Commissioners: Burning ban over, but remain cautious; recycle when you can

DANVILLE — A countywide open burning ban may be lifted, but county commissioners are asking people in areas where burning is allowed to be cautious when burning or better yet to recycle.

“I appreciate everyone abiding by the burn ban.” Commissioner Jerry Ward said at the commissioners’ meeting Tuesday. The 30-day ban, adopted because of dry conditions, was lifted May 10.

“For anyone with paper goods, the county offers recycling in Anthony, Valley and Cooper townships,” Commissioners Chairman Trevor Finn said.

Danville borough and Mahoning Township also have recycling programs.

Finn said residents of Danville and Mahoning Township can use the units installed in Anthony, Valley and Cooper townships. Recyclables can be taken there around-the-clock and don’t have to be sorted.

Commissioner Jerry Ward said eventually Valley Township’s recycling units will be moved from the township building to the former metal wire recovery site the township owns.

“Prior to the ban, we received some calls from residents wishing it would be permanent,” Finn said.
