Danville High School senior accepted into Air Force Academy

— DANVILLE – A Danville High School senior has been accepted into the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs after receiving a congressional nomination from Rep. Lou Barletta.

Tyler Blue began his application process a year and a half ago by getting in touch with regional Academy Liaison Officer Mike Komar, attending seminars and filling out paperwork. In September, he was interviewed by four members of Barletta’s staff who approved Blue’s nomination. A congressional nomination is required for acceptance into the Air Force Academy.

Blue, who will be the first member of his immediate family to serve in the military, thanked his parents and Komar for their help in bringing him this far. “I just always wanted to serve my country and give back,” Blue said.

Acceptance into the academy is essentially a scholarship to the academy’s four-year program, valued at approximately $465,000, Blue said. He plans to study mechanical engineering as he is interested in all the new technology used by the Air Force. “I’m a very math-oriented person and I wanted to have the opportunity to work with that,” he said.
