Students works on display

BLOOMSBURG – Opening on June 30 in the Moose Exchange’s Stairwell Gallery, the High School Art Scholarship Exhibition features work by 20 students from nine schools.

On Aug. 22, the artists will gather for a closing reception in the gallery between 6 and 8 p.m.  The Moose Exchange and Stairwell Gallery have temporary quarters in the space called the Antler at 24 East Main St.

Three members of the faculty of Bloomsburg University’s Department of Art and Art History selected the displayed pieces based on a review of the students’ art portfolios.  The portfolio review and tuition scholarship program happens thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor inspired by First Columbia Bank’s Teen Star Competition for young musicians.

Before coming to the Antler, the show hung in BU’s Haas Gallery during this past May; at a reception there on the 14th, three of the student artists received BU tuition scholarship award offers.  The first place student received a $1,500 scholarship offer, plus a $50 gift certificate to the B.U. store; second place received a $1,000 offer plus the gift certificate; third place received a $500 offer plus the gift certificate.  Five students each received a B.U. store $50 gift certificate as honorable mentions.

Students whose works appear in the exhibition include Brandon Conrad, Breanna Fowler, Ava Guffey – honorable mention recipient, Kagen Haberstick, McKayla Robbins, Scarlett Tuck and Lakota Wadena, all of Bloomsburg High School; Sarah Foster – honorable mention recipient, Central Columbia High School; Gunnar Feldmann, Morgan Gallagher, Abby Meredick – honorable mention recipient, Justin Phillips – second place scholarship recipient, and Taylor Roberson, all of Danville High School; Laura Chappell – honorable mention recipient, Millville High School; Olivia Greene – honorable mention recipient, Southern Columbia High School; Darrian Keller and Logyn Smith, both of Selinsgrove Area High School; Merre Martin – first place scholarship recipient, Northwest Area High School; Cassandra Vanatta, Warrior Run High School; and Tailor Weible – third place scholarship recipient, Garnet Valley High School.

The gallery’s hours vary from week to week; visit or call 570-317-2596 for the schedule, and find the Moose Exchange and the Stairwell Gallery on Facebook.
