DANVILLE – A kickball tournament raised $1,000 for hospitalized sick and injured children.
The Kickin’ It for Kids Kickball Tournament, held May 10 at Hess Recreation Area, attracted 14 teams, according to coordinator Julie Gombert.
The winning team – the Wolves of Ball Street – received a trophy.
This was the second year for the event.
Last year’s event raised $1,200.
Teams this year traveled as far as Williamsport, Harrisburg, Lewisburg and Wilkes-Barre areas.
Gombert is a registered nurse who works at the children’s hospital.
Teams included eight to 11 players.
Gombert and employees of the third-floor of the children’s hospital decided to organize the tournament last year because, “We wanted something that was a fun way to raise money and the money helps us provide the best care for our patients,” she said.
She especially thanked McGuigan’s Public House of Sunbury for selling food and the third-floor staff at the children’s hospital.
Sponsors were Weis Markets, Giant Foods, Cole’s Hardware and Wagner’s Trophies, all of Bloomsburg; Aroogas Grille House and Sports Bar of Harrisburg; Front Street Station, Grumpy’s Mason Jar and Keystone Insurance Co., all of Northumberland; Sunbury Motors, Brewer’s Outlet of Sunbury; and Dunham’s Sports of Columbia Mall.
She also thanked family and friends who supported the event.
