Montour County meth suspects’ cases advance

DANVILLE — A former boyfriend and girlfriend will face numerous felonies and misdemeanors for operating a methamphetamine lab in a motel room next to a restaurant and hindering the apprehension of a wanted person.

Ashley N. Malakoskie, 25, and Justin W. Cressinger, 26, waived their rights to preliminary hearings Monday before Montour County District Judge Marvin Shrawder.

Each was returned to the Columbia County Jail in lieu of $100,000 straight bail.

County District Attorney Rebecca Warren represented the commonwealth. Cressinger’s attorney is Leslie Bryden and Malakoskie’s counsel is Elizabeth Kulyeshie.

The March 11 raid began after an off-duty Mahoning Township officer noticed Megan Defrain, 28, of Bloomsburg, wanted on felony warrants by their department, standing outside a room at the Penn Motel at 1420 Montour Blvd. in Cooper Township.

Police took Defrain into custody along with her sister, Sarah Long, 25, who was staying in Room 4 with Donovan Curtis, 26, of Philadelphia. Police learned there were warrants out for Long and Curtis. Police charged Curtis and Long with drug offenses.

During the raid of Room 17, occupied by Malakoskie and Cressinger, at the motel,   the Northumberland-Montour Drug Task Force seized an AR-15 rifle, a loaded magazine for an AR-15 style rifle, meth-making ingredients and other items.

Malakoskie and Cressinger were charged with hindering the apprehension of Curtis who was found hiding in their bathroom shower. Police found meth-making materials and glassine packets in their room.

A state police clandestine laboratory team seized 26 items.

Police also confiscated $191, eight empty glassine baggies, a digital camera, a digital scale, a pipe cutter and numerous clear plastic baggies. The clandestine team disposed of tan coffee filters, an empty bottle of Heet, a white cardboard box, a black backpack and clear plastic tubing.

Malakoskie and Cressinger were each charged with a felony of manufacture, delivery or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver a controlled substance, a felony of conspiracy with intent to manufacture, deliver or possess with intent to deliver a controlled substance, a felony of possession with intent to manufacture a controlled substance, a felony of conspiracy to manufacture a controlled substance, a felony of operating an illegal meth lab, a felony of conspiracy to operate an illegal meth lab, a felony of possessing chemicals and materials with intent to manufacture a controlled substance, a felony conspiracy of possessing the substances, a felony of operating a meth lab and illegal dumping of meth waste, a felony of conspiracy of operating a meth lab and illegal dumping of meth waste, a felony of causing or risking a catastrophe, a misdemeanor of possession of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor of conspiracy of possession of drug paraphernalia, a felony of possessing ephedrine in ground up form to make meth, a misdemeanor of conspiracy of possession of ephedrine in ground up form and a felony of hindering the apprehension of a wanted person.
