Police won’t file charges in tanker truck rollover

DANVILLE – No charges will result from a tanker rollover crash Tuesday night on Route 54 .

Robert Smith, 53, of Bob Smith Pool Water of Nescopeck, was driving a cab hauling the tanker that flipped onto its side near the intersection with Route 11.

Investigating officer Danville Cpl. Jon Swank said Wednesday no charges will be filed. Smith was turning from Route 11 onto Route 54 at the time.

The tanker was carrying about half a load or about 8,000 gallons of pool water.

The mount of the fifth wheel of the tanker snapped off, according to Swank.

Danville firefighters were able to contain five gallons of gasoline that spilled from a can on the side of the tanker.

Some water also spilled from the tanker.

Two large wreckers were called to right the tanker onto its wheels.

Travel was detoured and snarled for slightly more than one hour.
