Riverside detour starts Friday

DANVILLE – Motorists in Northumberland County who travel Route 54 (Elysburg Road) in Riverside borough are advised that the Canadian Pacific Railroad plans to replace the crossing located just off the Danville-Riverside Bridge.

The crossing replacement is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. June 20.

A detour will be in effect for eastbound Route 54 traffic using Route 11, Route

42 and Route 487.

Westbound Route 54 traffic will use South D&H Avenue, Chestnut Street and North D&H Avenue.

Motorists are advised to expect heavy congestion and slow-moving traffic in and around Riverside Borough. Motorists should consider alternate routes.

The railroad will remove the existing rail seal and asphalt, at-grade crossing and replace it with a new concrete surface.

Anticipated completion is at 6 p.m. June 23.
