— DANVILLE – Mark Douglas Mader, 54, of Danville, was charged with one count of theft from Weis Markets after he tried to leave the store with $89.85 worth of unpaid groceries at noon, June 17.
Mader had placed the items in a backpack and claimed to have forgotten about them, according to a report from Danville police. When an officer asked why Mader even needed to put the items into his backpack, since he was pushing a grocery cart, Mader said he did not know.
Among the items found in the backpack were caramel ice cream syrup, toothpaste, a bottle of vitamin C pills, two bags of pistachio nuts and four steak fillets. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 30 at 3 p.m.
