Theft, forgery suspect enters guilty pleas

— DANVILLE — A New York man has entered guilty pleas to four charges related to forging credit cards and attempted theft by deception.

Ray Beckwith, 20, of Cambria Heights, N.Y., pleaded guilty Wednesday to two counts of forgery and one count each of access device fraud and attempted theft by deception.

Following a criminal records check, he will be sentenced by Montour County Judge Gary Norton.

Beckwith was charged Oct. 23, 2012, with Devante M. Heyward, 20, of Hollis, N.Y., with forging or altering credit cards and using them to purchase $418 worth of merchandise at a Danville supermarket.

He was also charged at Sheetz Market in Mahoning Township where he attempted to use an altered credit card to buy $100 worth of cigarettes that same day.

Danville police were called about two men using stolen credit cards and leaving Danville Weis Markets.

An officer arrived and saw their vehicle fleeing at a high rate of speed.

He radioed ahead and Montour Township, Columbia County, police stopped them. Danville police said the two discarded several credit cards in the area of FNB Bank at Mill and Bloom streets.
