Two people injured today in Route 54 crash

DANVILLE — One person was trapped in their car after a two-vehicle crash outside the Route 54 Sunoco that sent two people to the hospital.

Christopher Spaid, 27, of Wilburton, told Danville police that he was traveling towards Danville along Route 54 in his pick-up truck at approximately 1 p.m. Spaid saw a white car stop at the stop sign outside the Sunoco. The car then pulled out in front of him, according to comments he made to Sgt. William Wilt of the Danville Police Department.

The two occupants of the other car were taken to Geisinger Medical Center by Danville Ambulance. The driver, a woman, needed to be extracted from the vehicle using jaws of life, according to Chris Dickinson, chief of the Danville Fire Department. “The door was pushed in on her pretty bad,” he said.

Dickinson said the woman was complaining of chest pains while her passenger, a man, had lacerations on his head. The man did not need to be extracted using the jaws of life. Neither Dickinson nor Wilt had names yet for the car’s two passengers.

Spaid said his hand hurt a little following the crash, but was otherwise uninjured. He was wearing his seatbelt.

Spaid’s pick-up truck had to be towed following the accident. The other car was driven from the scene.

Traffic going towards Danville was diverted along Montour Street following the accident. Traffic leaving Danville was temporarily reduced.
