Art to share? The Danville Arts Council needs your help

DANVILLE — Donations of local artwork are being sought by members of the Danville Arts Council for use at the council’s first fundraiser.

The fundraiser will feature a silent and live auction of donated art and gift certificates to local businesses. The event will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. April 7 on the second floor of the Old Forge Brewing Company, Mill Street.

“We will auction off whatever the artist in question wants to donate to us,” said Scott Richardson, chairman of the arts council. “It’s a great opportunity for local artists to do something for the art council as well as for themselves.”

The goal of the auction is to both raise money for the arts council as well as to bring attention to the “many talented artists we have in the area,” Richardson said.

Some local artists have already donated pieces, according to council member Bryan Holmes. Artist Chris Fritzges, who lives in Milton but works in Danville, has offered a piece of woodworking for the auction while Todd Jeffreys of Mill Street’s Stoneware store will donate a piece of pottery.

Tickets for the event are $20, and include hors d’oeuvres and two drink coupons. About 100 tickets are available and can be purchased at the Danville Business Alliance office at 346 Mill St. Entertainment will be provided by Zing Productions.

Proceeds from the fundraiser will go towards advertising costs of future arts council events, such as the Spring Thaw Art Show. A children’s exhibit will be added to the Spring Thaw show this year, which will showcase work from local artists age 16 and younger.

The council would like art teachers at Danville schools to spread the word about this so the students can have their work highlighted, Richardson said.

The art council would also like to be able to use the money to fund smaller projects around town, such as mini-murals that cover small portions of buildings, Holmes said.
