Danville principal asks parents to donate to charity to support reading accomplishment

— DANVILLE — When Danville Primary School principal John Bickhart promised he would have his head shaved into a mohawk if his students met a year-long reading challenge, they rose to the occasion.

Bickhart’s shaving, set to take place in front of the primary school students on Monday at 2 p.m., is his way of rewarding the kindergarten through second-grade classes for reading more than 350,000 minutes since October.

“The purpose of the Reading Incentive Program at DPS was to promote a love of reading in our students,” Bickhart said. If parents want to also show their support of the students’ accomplishment, Bickhart suggested they make a donation to the charity Heart To Hand Ministries, run by local musician Wood Wolfe.

“Mr. Woody Wolfe is a great friend of the Danville Primary School. He is a product of the Danville Area School District and constantly gives back to our school,” Bickhart said in an email statement.

Donations can be made at www.HeartToHandMinistries.com.
