DANVILLE — DANVILLE – Unwanted prescriptions will be collected from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 26 at the Montour County Courthouse on Mill Street.
County District Attorney Rebecca Warren and Drug Task Force Supervisor and County Sheriff Ray Gerringer said the county will again participate in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.
They said everyone is invited to bring unwanted medications for disposal to the courthouse with the service free and anonymous and no questions asked.
Old prescription medications which remain in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse and abuse. Improper disposal of prescription medication can result in not only illegal use but also contamination of the environment, according to Warren and Gerringer.
Rates of prescription drug abuse in the U.S. are alarmingly high, they said. Studies have shown a majority of prescription drug abuse comes from family and friends including unsuspecting people’s home medicine cabinets.
