Danville Police Chief Gill working on meth house policies

DANVILLE — Police Chief Eric Gill is working on policies and procedures for condemnation of any methamphetamine houses found in Danville.

Speaking Tuesday night to Danville Borough Council members, he said he discussed the matter with code administrator Jackie Hart and is seeking direction from Montour County District Attorney Rebecca Warren.

“There’s a difference between a total condemnation and smaller amounts that would be less of a problem and could be cleaned up more quickly,” he said.

The first known meth house in Danville was discovered earlier this year and resulted in the arrest of a woman facing trial on the county level.

Gill also said he would like to have security cameras purchased and placed on Mill Street. He plans to look for grants to fund the cameras.

He also hopes the council will discuss a school resource officer “to any degree.”

Fingerprinting of people charged won’t be done by hand by Danville officers in another couple of months, he said.

That’s because a central booking center will be opening in Mahoning Township where officers will take people to be fingerprinted through the use of a machine.

With three new police officers recently hired, the focus will be on getting them trained, he said.

Councilman Bill Hause asked if he would introduce them to the council, which Gill said he would do so.

Council President Dick Johns reminded council members they can visit the police department at any time.
