Resident: Washies ballfield dust a health hazard

— DANVILLE — An elderly woman complained about dust from the Washies ballfields.

“I was here before about the health hazard,” Sylvia Dresssler, of Grand Street, said of the dust. She spoke at Tuesday night’s Danville Borough Council meeting.

While borough public works director John Hack said he can look into the complaint, he said the Little League has a man who takes care of the fields.

Last year, calcium was spread on streets in that area, he said. The fields are owned by the Washies Fire Company and rented or leased by the Little League, he said.

Hack said the fields aren’t the borough’s responsibility.

“There is dust in and out of the fields constantly,” Dressler said.

She said the borough street sweeper only went by twice last year.

Hack said the sweeper sweeps her street twice a month.

Dressler told council members she has lived on Grand Street since 1957 and she remembers when that area was a carnival ground in the summertime.
