DACC summer camp finishes with car wash

— DANVILLE — Summer campers at Danville Area Community Center will raise money for an end of camp celebration with a car wash this Friday.

“It’s the first time we’ve had a car wash,” said Jean Knouse, executive director of the community center. “They’re all excited about it,” she said of the kids.

The car wash will be held at from 10:30 a.m. to noon and from 2 to 3:30 p.m. today. Cost is $3.

Once the money has been collected, the kids will decide if they want to spend it on a pizza party, ice cream party or field trip. Not only does the activity give the kids the chance to hold a special activity when their camp closes, it teaches them the value of hard work.

“You do the work, you get the benefits,” she said.

The kids will wash the vehicles with hoses, sponges, buckets and “the whole nine yards,” said camp counselor Heather Andrusis.

“It’s a different activity for them, something that’s not swimming or a craft,” she said The car wash also fits into this week’s set of activities which are all based around transportation.
