— DANVILLE – Abigail’s Attic took a big step towards restocking its wares last week after a successful clothing drive held at Geisinger Medical Center.
The consignment and thrift store, whose merchandise was heavily damaged from smoke after an April 20 fire in neighboring restaurant BJ’s Steak & Rib House, received enough clothing on the May 6 drive to fill 20 large garbage bags with clothes, according to assistant manager Connie Housenick. The clothes were collected at Abigail Lobby of GMC from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
“They did very well by us,” Housenick said.
Abigail’s Attic is still accepting donations of clothing at its new store, located at 322-324 Mill Street, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Store manager April Leese expects the store to reopen in late May or early June.
“Everybody continues to work hard and work together to get us open,” she said.
Another clothing donation drive is currently taking place at Geisinger’s Buckhorn office building. The drive started Monday and will continue through May 23, according to Michael Ferlazzo, a spokesperson for Geisinger Health System.
Abigail’s Attic is a non-profit operated by the Geisinger Auxiliary. Its proceeds go to benefit various community projects, including the Child Advocacy Center of the Janet Weis Children’s Hospital and Millville’s Camp Victory.
The fire at BJ’s Steak & Rib House began at around 8 p.m., Easter Sunday. Nobody was harmed, though extensive damage was done to BJ’s and the third floor apartment located above Abigail’s Attic old store front. The fire began in BJ’s second floor office.
