Blaze destroys E. Chillisquaque barn, kills chickens

MILTON — A barn fire Sunday at 875 Mexico Road in East Chillisquaque Township, destroyed the building and farm equipment and killed an unknown number of chickens housed inside.

Sam Shaffer, chief of the Milton Fire Department, said one firefighter was treated at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg, for an eye injury, but was released.

Shaffer did not have the name of the property owner, but said Potts Grove’s fire company was contacting the state police fire marshal to help determine the cause of the blaze. Firefighters were at the scene until about 6:15 p.m. There is no estimate of damages, Shaffer said.

According to Union County emergency dispatchers, among the fire companies that responded were Milton, Potts Grove, Turbot Township, White Deer Township, Lewisburg, Warrior Run and companies from Montour County.
