Mahoning school plans take shape

MAHONING TWP. — A lot consolidation plan will allow T&S Realty to proceed with the second phase of its renovations for the former Mahoning-Cooper Elementary School.

The consolidation plan was approved by members of the Mahoning Township supervisor board at their June 16 meeting. Previously, the property was split into four smaller lots, according to township zoning officer Dean Von Blohn. “They had to combine them before they could do a land development.”

Part of the former school has already been rented to Columbia County Bread and Granola, as part of phase one renovations. The bakery uses the school’s former cafeteria and kitchen.

Under T&S Realty’s phase two plans, the rest of the building will become office space, Von Blohn said. T&S will be “completely gutting” the front end of the building, placing new wiring and heating inside. The parking lot will also be reconfigured as it is “way out of compliance.” In its current state, the lot is too close to property lines and must be moved back.

The Danville Area School District approved the sale of the school to T&S Realty for $200,000 in October of 2012.
