Line Mountain, Halifax searching for identity

— HERNDON — After a hard-fought 10-point win over Philipsburg-Osceola, Line Mountain (1-4, 0-4 Tri-Valley League) has seen a promising season slip away.

The Eagles, a perennial playoff contender, have lost four straight, three of which were by a combined eight points.

But maybe a Homecoming game against winless Halifax will help turn the season around.

The team is allowing 25.6 points per game while scoring 18.6 points per game.

The Eagles are also the most penalized team in the TVL with an average of 53.8 yards per game.

Senior Cory Warford has seven touchdowns on the year and is third in the TVL in rushing, averaging 131.4 yards per game.

Despite what the scoreboard says each week, Halifax (0-5, 0-4 TVL) coach Matt Maniskas says his team is continuing to show progress.

“We rushed for more than 150 yards against Millersburg and we threw for more than 100 yards against Williams Valley,” he said. “The good thing is that, despite the fact we are losing, the kids have a great attitude, I love that about them. You are going to get a fight from them every game and they are going to fight for 48 minutes.”

One area in which Maniskas wants to see the Wildcats improve, is special teams.

“Our special teams play has to get better,” he said. “We gave up 35 points on special teams to Upper Dauphin in week three.”

In seeing film of Line Mountain, Maniskas knows both teams are still trying to find their identity.

“Our play calling has evened out more and we are just going to try and play our game,” he said. “If we can bring it together for 48 minutes, I know we can do something special.”
