Guess Who! Week 23 ID'd!

— The naked truth? Being a meter reader for a gas company exposed this lifelong Valley resident to more skin than he cared to see. “You get into some odd situations,” he says. Not everyone must have heard the knock on the door, and the announcement of “gas man!”

Not the people he saw showering in the basement.

And certainly not the couples he saw in “compromising positions” in living rooms.

“You’d bang on the door, yell ‘gas man!’ and they’d say, ‘Come on in.’ They expected you every month. Nobody questioned it. You’d go right on down to the basement, read the meter, turn around and leave.”

Sometimes, though, having had an eyeful.

Or being bitten by “so many times by dogs” and getting fleas.

“This was 38 years ago,” he explains. “All meters were in basements. Now the meter reader rides in car and picks up the reading electronically.”

Now this 1973 Shikellamy High graduate, who compiled a 56-2-1 career record on the mats, wrestles with issues as a member of a Valley borough council, and dreams of the day he will be able to visit Europe.

“Italy,” he says. “I have heard a lot of good things about it. The food’s good. I like Italian food.” His favorite? “Probably  fettuccine alfredo . But I am more of a steak guy.”

His Italian-American friends, he says, “keep raving about their country, so I would like to check it out.”

He’d also like to check out Hawaii again — “It’s just so peaceful over there” — and visit his daughter in California.

Just watch out for those wine cellars.
