SUNBURY -- Lightning could light up tonight's holiday skies along with fireworks, warned Alan Reppert, a meteorologist with AccuWeather, State College.
"I mean, it's a real possibility," Reppert said Thursday night.
"A strong weather system from the northwest that contains numerous storms has stalled over this area and the Northeast in general. So we are likely to get scattered thunderstorms and lightning throughout the weekend, until Sunday," he said.
There will be no discernible pattern to the storms, Reppert added. "It will be hit and miss. It might rain on your parade.
"I'd suggest that if you're going out to a food festival or to a fireworks celebration, you check your local weather forecast. If you're planning a picnic, it might not be a bad idea to keep an umbrella in the car, particularly if a storm is headed your way."
Along with cloudy skies, temperatures today and Saturday should range in the mid-70s. "Sounds comfortable," Reppert said, "but it will be humid."
Lows are expected to be in the 60s.
