ALLENWOOD — An Allentown man was injured Tuesday when his pickup truck veered across Route 15, destroyed a porch and struck a large tree, authorities said.
Stephen M. Geneczko, 18, of Allentown, was northbound on Route 15 at 7:57 a.m. just north of the Route 44 intersection, when he apparently lost control of his 2002 Chevrolet Silverado pickup, state police at Milton said. The truck crossed the southbound lanes, jumped the curb and clipped the edge of a hedgerow before crashing onto the porch of a home.
The vehicle finally stopped when it struck a large pine tree with so much force that it snapped the top off the tree. The porch roof fell onto the cab roof after all its supports were knocked out.
“I was sitting in the dining room when I heard this big noise,” said a resident of the home who would not give her name.
A man putting siding on a nearby house said he heard the noise and came around the side of the house just as the top of the tree fell onto Route 15.
“He was in there, and he wasn’t moving,” he said of the driver.
Geneczko was taken by Evangelical Ambulance Service to Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where he was reported in fair condition Tuesday afternoon. Police said he was alone in the vehicle.
Additional information, including who owned the home, was not available by press time. Apparently no one in the home was injured.
Also assisting at the scene were the Warrior Run Area Fire Department and the White Deer Township Fire Company.
