RICHFIELD — Fire destroyed a Richfield barn and its contents Monday.

No one was hurt in the 7:25 a.m. blaze at 314 Main St., according to Kevin Gearhart, assistant chief of the Richfield Fire Company.

Electrical lines above the barn created a hazard for the approximately 40 firefighters who responded to the alarm, he said. Phone and cable connections for a number of residents were out of service for several hours.

The barn was used for storage, Gearhart said, and contained several antiques, which were minimally insured.

A loss estimate was unknown Monday night. The property owner’s name was not available.

The cause of the fire has been ruled undetermined, but is not considered suspicious. Gearhart said the barn contained no sources of electricity or heat.

The owners of the barn were home when the fire started. Gearhart believes several contractors, working across the street, awakened them and called 911.

Firefighters from Richfield, Fayette Township, Delaware Township, Mount Pleasant Mills and Middleburg remained on the scene for about three hours.
