Krebs' keeper sparks Selinsgrove past Shamokin

COAL TOWNSHIP — Selinsgrove ran the ball 19 consecutive times, capping a long TD drive with a game-winning quarterback sneak by Tyler Krebs as the Seals beat Shamokin, 20-13, in a HAC-I game Friday night at Kemp Memorial Stadium.

Krebs' quarterback keeper with 14 seconds. The Seals (4-0, 3-0 HAC-I) did nothing flashy and only had only two runs of 10 yards, both by sophomore halfback Zach Adams.

But the Indians’ defense, tough all night up front, gave up yards grudgingly and it came down to a fourth-and-one at the one-yard line and the Seals took time out with 19 seconds to play.

Adams, who found yards harder to come by against the Indians than he did earlier in the week against Shikellamy, said of the winning drive, “We knew we were running it every single play and when we got down inside the five, there was not even a thought about kicking the ball, we were just pounding it in.”

After the kickoff, freshman tackle Andrew Boob dropped Shamokin quarterback Tucker Yost for a five-yard loss and the game ended on an incompletion.

The Seals led just 7-6 at the half with the Indians’ getting 35- and 22-yard field goals from Jonathan Deitrick and the Seals an exciting 46-yard TD run by senior fullback Mike Walter.

Hess said the team came out flat and that was addressed at halftime. He thought they came out a much better team in the second half.

The Indians (1-3, 1-2) forced a three-and-out on the opening series, but the snap to punter Deitrick bounced twice in front of him and by the time he corralled it, he was buried at the Indians’ 5-yard line by Walter and Boob.

Three plays later, Walter went over left tackle for the TD, but the PAT sailed wide left, giving the Seals a precarious 13-6 lead with 8:42 left in the third.
