LEWISBURG — Marion D. Danowsky, a resident of Elmcroft Senior Living Community in Lewisburg, celebrated her 101st birthday recently. She was born Jan. 2, 1913, in Tomhicken (near Hazleton), a daughter of Amandus and Cora DeFrain. She graduated from West Hazleton High School in 1931 and from Bloomsburg University in 1933. Marion married Harold Danowsky in 1936 and they moved to Lewisburg/Kelly Crossroads.
Marion taught school in the Sugarloaf Valley for three years and in one room schools in the Lewisburg area her whole career, including Straw Bridge, Mazeppa, and Buffalo Crossroads. She retired from Kelly Elementary in 1972 after 29 years of teaching.
She has been a member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ for over 75 years and is a member of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees (PASR). She enjoys reading, knitting, and puzzles of several kinds.
She is the mother of two children, Alice Pawling and Helen Stump. There are also three grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
