MIFFLINBURG — A kick-off celebration, featuring award-winning children’s performer, Steven Courtney, is slated for 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. June 5 at the Mifflinburg Community Park. During this event, kids can dig into history, dig for buried treasure, dig in the dirt, and learn about vehicles and people that dig for a purpose during the celebration, as well as talk with T&D’s Cats of the World about animals that dig and burrow.
Hot dogs, chips and drinks will be served and children can create their own “dirt” or “sand” dessert.
This year’s theme, Dig Into Reading, is about all things underground — dirt, plants, fossils, animals that burrow, buried treasure and more. Special programs focusing on the theme are planned throughout the summer.
Registration for summer reading beings June 3 at each of the libraries in the system. Children can also sign-up during the kick-off celebration. Children who complete the summer reading program will receive one admission ticket to Clyde Peeling’s Reptiland.
