Election season kicks off in Union County Feb. 19, the first day to circulate and file nomination petitions.
That gives candidates three weeks to get the 100 countywide signatures they need to run for offices. It costs candidates $100 each to throw their hats in the ring.
The last day to circulate and file petitions is March 12, said Greg Katherman, elections director for Union County. The municipal primary is May 21.
It also was decided to give elections and poll workers a $20 pay increase during a Board of Elections segment at the Union County Comissioners meeting Tuesday. Those who work a half day will get a $10 raise.
The raise will go into effect in 2014.
