Jury: Wirth guilty in drunk-driving crash that killed girlfriend

LEWISBURG — A Hartleton man was found guilty Friday on five felony charges in a drunk driving car crash near Laurelton last year that left his girlfriend, the mother of his child, dead and himself and their companion seriously injured.

Chirstopher Wirth, 22, appeared calm as the jury foreman read the verdicts after about an hour of deliberation. His attorney Brian Ulmer polled the 13 jury members, all of whom responded unanimously for guilty verdicts.

Wirth potentially could face 27 years in prison and $65,000 in fines, according to Union County District Attorney Peter Johnson.

Felony charges in this trial were two counts of homicide by vehicle, one including DUI; two counts of aggravated assault, one including DUI; and one count of accidental death or injury while not properly licensed.

Senior Judge Louise O. Knight also issued penalties for seven other charges that were misdemeanors and summary offenses.
