LEWISBURG — The Buffalo Valley Recreation Authority (BVRA) is holding its first annual Kiss for Skates event on Feb. 14, from 4:30 to 9 p.m.
This year, bring your loved one to the BVRA Ice Rink on Valentine’s Day to celebrate with a couple’s skate. Purchase one skate rental and get one free with a kiss to your significant other, friend, family member, or even your neighbor. For those who are not interested in skating, a warm, cozy indoor fire to roast smores is available. Special Valentine’s Day concessions will be available for purchase.
The Lewisburg Jaycees originally built the 150- by 200-foot outdoor rink in 1970. Since the early 1980s, the rink had been closed down. In 2001, the LARA Ice Rink Committee was formed and began renovating the facility. Volunteers, community service workers and others continue to work on the rink each year by painting, cleaning and renovating the building, fireplace and bathrooms. This year a new large sign was put up on St. Mary Street.
Weather permitting, the rink will be open for the season to the public with the last day being March 1. Weekday hours are Tuesday through Friday, 4:30 to 9 p.m.; Saturday, 1 to 9 p.m., and Sundays, 1 to 5 p.m. Mondays are open for ice hockey only from 5 to 7 p.m. Residents are encouraged to call the ice rink building at (570) 524-6776 and listen to the daily recorded message to learn the hours for the day.
The BVRA ice rink is also looking for donations of firewood and ice skates. If you have some wood taking up space in your backyard or a pair of ice skates collecting dust in the attic, please call the office.
