LEWISBURG — Bob and Linda Derr will be at Country Cupboard on May 31, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to sign the new Boyds by Enesco collector’s edition of Burke P. Bear that was named after Derr’s son, Burke P. Derr, a Mifflinburg teenager who died due to cystic fibrosis (CF) in 1997. Since then, Burke P. Bear has toured all 50 states, two Canadian provinces, and 23 world countries in raising over $535,000 for CF research.
“Burke’s Tour,” the book that describes Burke Derr’s life with CF along with the travels of Burke P. Bear, will also be available.
“All proceeds from this event will go to Pennsylvania Cystic Fibrosis, Inc. (PACFI),” said Derr. He and his wife are PACFI members. PACFI is an independent, nonprofit, all volunteer organization that provides services and supports for PA families affected by CF and funds CF research.
“With shipping, PACFI pays $13 for each bear and then we sell the bear for $22,” Derr said, “so $9 from the sale of each bear goes to CF research through annual allocations by PACFI.” Derr noted that PACFI supports some of the most progressive CF research projects in the country.
