For The Daily Item
LEWISBURG — February 24, 2013 - Jeannette Lasansky, historian and author on this topic, will talk about the contradictions in the lives and practices of early Union County families and leaders like the Dales and Linns in the 18th and 19th centuries, as it pertains to slaveholding.
Her talk will be presented in the Old Buffalo Church, the earliest built Presbyterian church and site where many staunch slave holders worshiped. There was gradual abolition in Pennsylvania in 1780 but not total abolition in Pennsylvania until 1847. The presenter has led the county's research on this topic since the Dale House became a property of the UCHS in 2001.
