LEWISBURG — Director Michael Payne will not seek another term on the Lewisburg area school board, he confirmed Wednesday to the Daily Item.
Lewisburg resident Kelly Komula filed a ballot petition under both parties in Union County, seeking election to the board. Close of business Tuesday was the deadline for submitting ballot petitions.
Payne has served six years on the board, joining in 2007 to fill in an unexpired term several months after his retirement from Bucknell University, where he had been an English professor for about 37 years.
“I haven’t really had any retirement,” he said, laughing. “If I ran again and got elected. I would be 76 when the term would be up.
“It has been great experience,” he said, “but I thought it was time to let someone else do it.”
Payne’s school board work included representing the school district for the Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit.
