Conservancy Presentation Explores Limestone Run Stream Restoration

The Daily Item

— LEWISBURG — On Sunday, April 14, starting at 1:30 p.m., the Merrill W. Linn Land and Waterways Conservancy will sponsor a Limestone Run Stream Restoration Presentation as part of the organization’s 10th annual Caring for Communities Earth Month Celebration. The event will begin at the Vic’s Pub/Victoria House property, located at the junction of Route 45 and Fairground Road west of Lewisburg

Serious erosion of the stretch of Limestone Run that passes through the property was addressed during August, 2012, through the combined efforts of the Conservancy, the Union County Conservation District, the Department of Environmental Protection, the Fish and Boat Commission, Bucknell University, Hepner’s Landscaping and Vic’s Pub owners, managers and employees who invested time, money and labor. The project received a DEP Growing Greener grant of $26,000.

Participants will learn how the restoration was accomplished and how plantings both enhance the project and provide food for the restaurant. Following the Vic’s Pub segment of the presentation, participants will walk, bike or drive to St. Mary’s Park to learn about follow-up measures that were taken at that site.
