LEWISBURG — The public is invited to join other local citizens and the Lewisburg Shade Tree Commission (STC) for this year’s celebration of Arbor Day on Friday, April 26 at 5 p.m. in Kidsburg at Hufnagle Park in downtown Lewisburg. There will be a short ceremony with a Mayoral proclamation, followed by the presentation of the 2013 Tree City award, the unveiling of the banner, and a ceremonial tree planting.
Following the ceremony, at 6 p.m., there will be an informal tree walk in downtown Lewisburg led by former Shade Tree member Brian Gockley.
In cooperation with the Lewisburg Borough, this month, the Lewisburg Shade Tree Commission will plant dozens of trees to enhance public areas of Lewisburg. Using trees donated by Union County as a part of their bicentennial celebration and trees purchased at a reduced bulk rate with Penn State Cooperative Extension, the Commission will facilitate tree plantings in Kidsburg at Hufnagle Park and along the North Fourth Street right of way. Working with property owners of the North Fourth Street residences as well as the Borough staff and volunteer planting crews, the Shade Tree Commission is excited about the impact the plantings will have on the overall urban forest and tree canopy in the Borough.
More information about the Shade Tree Commission, their policies and their mission, can be found on the Lewisburg borough’s website, www.lewisburgborough.org, Shade Tree Information tab.
