LEWISBURG — It’s time for the public to weigh in as the Buffalo Valley Rail Trail continues its march east. An informational meeting on the trail extension through Lewisburg borough will begin at 7 p.m. May 23 in the William Cameron Engine Company training facility, North Fifth Street and Buffalo Road.
This meeting follows a rail trail authority meeting Wednesday night in which members discussed extending the popular bike and pedestrian path.
Meeting attendees can expect an overview of the proposed extension, mainly a section from North Fifth Street east to the West Branch of the Susquehanna River. St. John Street occupies the former West Shore Railroad right-of-way.
A few preliminary design concepts will be on display before public discussion. Comments will be documented and incorporated into a conceptual design report, due this summer, that will contain more refined options.
The proposed extension is a collaborative effort led by the Buffalo Valley Recreation Authority in partnership with Lewisburg borough and East Buffalo Township. Bucknell University’s Department of Civil Engineering faculty and students and Larson Design Group, the project consultant, are providing technical assistance.
A $5,000 mini-grant from the Susquehanna Greenway Partnership funds the design work.
