LEWISBURG — The Green Dragon Foundation recently recognized its volunteers at a reception held at Fero Vineyards and Winery in Lewisburg. Thanking donors and honoring volunteers, Brooks Gronlund, president, recognized all volunteers and presented exceptional volunteer service awards.
According to Gronlund, “In 2013, 41 volunteers worked a total of 530 hours assisting the foundation in a variety of ways.” He continued, “Volunteers are essential components to the important work we are doing. Raising money to benefit Lewisburg students requires a team of volunteers who help in a variety of ways such as gift processing, database maintenance, public relations, writing and editing newsletters and annual reports, photography, special event coordination, grant writing, mailings and letter writing.”
This year, volunteers, Paul Beswick, Erica Shames and Linda Keefer combined for 201 hours of service and were recognized for their exceptional volunteer service.
Culminating the awards portion of the reception was the presentation of the Volunteer of the Year Award. This award was created in 2011 to recognize a volunteer who went above and beyond in the scope of volunteer efforts. This year, the award was bestowed upon Kristen Hendrickson.
According to Gronlund, “Kristen began volunteering in June 2012. Since that time, she has volunteered 132 hours. She has been helpful processing our donations, assisting with mail campaigns and is willing to help in any way she can and where she is needed the most.”
In addition to her service to the Green Dragon Foundation, Kristen helps the Lewisburg community in other ways. For the past several years, she has served on the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life planning committee and the Lewisburg Elementary PSA. This fall, Hendrickson was hired as a substitute teacher in the Lewisburg Area School District.
To commemorate Hendrickson’s award, the Green Dragon Foundation will donate an extra $1,000 in her honor to LASD. Hendrickson will determine where these funds will be directed to benefit Lewisburg students. Gronlund concludes, “We extend a warm thank you to Kristen and all of our volunteers for their service and efforts on behalf of our students.”
