MIFFLINBURG -- The recipients of the March ASPIRES award have been revealed by Scott Zimmerman, principal of the Mifflinburg Intermediate School. This award is sponsored by the Mifflinburg Kiwanis club in conjunction with the anti-bullying program and is presented to students who have displayed such positive behaviors as responsibility, respect for differences, kindness, and school success. The students are recommended by their homeroom teachers and each will receive a special certificate and cash award at the May assembly.
In third grade, Payton Derr, daughter of Traci and Brett Derr, is being honored. Payton hopes to become a dentist. She is in Mrs. Sheesley’s homeroom and her favorite class is gym. She is very active in competitive cheerleading.
Hannah Beachy, daughter of Verlen and Treva Beachy, is the fourth grade recipient. She is in Mr. Bollinger’s homeroom and her favorite class is gym. She likes to play soccer and go hunting. Hannah is participating in the school’s annual LipSync and hopes to become a marine biologist.
In Mrs. Hoffman’s fifth grade room, Brooke Karchner has been selected. She is the daughter of Steve and Connie Hoffman. Brooke’s favorite class is gym and she would like to become a professional softball player. Outside of school, she plays softball, participates in Tai-Kwan Do, is on the Bible quiz team at her church and enjoys hunting, fishing and trapping.
