The Daily Item

— LEWISBURG — Packwood House Museum’s 27th Annual Champagne and Orchids Dinner was held April 6, in the Museum’s Dining Room. This year’s winning ticket holder was Rose Gutelius, of Montandon.

Catered for the fifth year by Chef Mike Ditchfield’s culinary arts class of the School of Hospitality at the Pennsylvania College of Technology, the eight-course dinner consisted of hors d’oeuvres (beef carpaccio, asparagus and prociutto phyllo rolls, and vegetable tarts); fried bleu cheese salad with bacon, tomatoes, and a maple balsamic dressing; a beef consommé soup course; and an intermezzo consisting of apple wasabi sorbet infused with olive oil. The fish course was pan-seared scallops and braised pork belly served with succotash and a pork reduction, followed by a grilled lamb sirloin served with a mint pesto and risotto, and, finally, an entrée of turducken — roasted turkey, duck, and chicken. Dessert was raspberry-stuffed timbale with a hint of champagne; strawberry, balsamic, and pepper timbale, and chocolate soup.

Music for the evening was provided by keyboardist Donald Messimer and guests were given a tour of the first floor of the museum by the site administrator, Jennifer Snyder.
