MIFFLINBURG — The Gutelius House Museum (Preservation Mifflinburg, Inc.) hosted its first worldwide Gutelius Family Reunion on Oct. 13 at the Museum.
Mayor David Cooney welcomed everyone to a church service by Rev. James Gold at the Elias Church, followed by a luncheon at the Presbyterian Church. Robert Lynch, Commissioner John Showers and Jeffrey Mensch spoke to the group about Mifflinburg and its history. Gutelius families traveled from Texas, Florida, Michigan, New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Georgia, Wisconsin, Ohio and Illinois to visit with their relatives. One Gutelius had not been to Mifflinburg since 1946 when he was 15 years of age. Family members enjoyed a coverlet exhibit, reviewed the Gutelius genealogy tree of almost 3,000 individuals and toured the cemetery for relatives. It was exciting for members of PMI to meet descendants of Frederick Gutelius who originally built the Gutelius House Museum in 1803. A future reunion was discussed.
