NEW BERLIN — Three Valley teenagers are under investigation for allegedly stealing debit cards and roughly $10,000 in jewelry from three parked vehicles in Union County earlier this month to fund a trip to New York to buy drugs.
State police at Milton reported Sunday that charges are pending against the three suspects, who were not identified. They are an 18-year-old from Milton, an 18-year-old from Mifflinburg and a 16-year-old from Lewisburg.
According to police, the thefts occurred April 10-13. The victims are Arthur Morris, 35, and Danielle Wood, 40, both of New Berlin, who reported debit-credit cards stolen from their vehicles. The third victim, Barbara Ross, 63, of Winfield, reported her debit-credit card and about $10,000 worth of jewelry taken from her vehicle.
Police said the trio used several of the stolen cards to buy gas and food during their road trip. They eventually were found in White Haven in Luzerne County, about 80 miles east of New Berlin, by White Haven police, who searched their vehicle and allegedly found several of the stolen cards.
During interviews Thursday by state police, the three suspects admitted to the crimes and the trip to New York, the police report said. The 18-year-old from Milton consented to a search of his home, where Ross’ jewelry was found, troopers said. The jewelry was returned to her.
