— LEWISBURG — The Lewisburg Community Garden will host two events — a Locavore Dinner and a Harvest Festival — in September, both open to the public.

The Locavore Dinner will be held Sunday, Sept. 22, at 6:30 p.m. in the garden, located at the intersection of St. Anthony and North Water steets, Lewisburg.

The evening begins with appetizers, wine and music from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., followed by a four-course meal made from locally sourced ingredients. Omnivore and vegan options are available.

Tickets are $50 per person, available from Wilson & Ross, The Mercantile and CommUnity Zone, all located on Market Street in Lewisburg. Proceeds benefit the Lewisburg Community Garden.

The Lewisburg Community Garden’s second annual Harvest Festival will be held Saturday, Sept. 28, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Events include games, face painting, music, local farmers, food trucks, a watermelon-eating contest and more. Admission is free.

A joint project between Bucknell University and the Borough of Lewisburg, the garden features 40 plots for individuals, families or groups interested in gardening as well as an 8,000-square-foot community plot.

The community plot produces food that is grown and donated to the community using volunteer labor. During the 2013 season the community plot donated more than 1,500 pounds of organic produce to the local community.

Since its inception in 2012, the garden has rented to more than 80 families, hosted 200 local children at summer camps, and worked with more than 500 community volunteers.
