— LEWISBURG — The Union County commissioners signed Christmas cards recently in support of the American Red Cross “Holiday Mail for Heroes” campaign.

Collection boxes for county employees and visitors will be available in the courthouse on South Second Street and the Government Center on 15th Street until Dec. 15, after which the cards will be collected by the Red Cross and taken to VA hospitals and veterans in nursing homes as well as mailed to those serving around the world.

The public is reminded that cards can be signed and dropped into collection boxes at most libraries and banks in the community as well.

An open house will be held at the SUN Area Red Cross office, 249 Farley Circle, Lewisburg, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday. Light refreshments will be available, and people can turn in holiday greetings for members of the military and their families.

Members of the public are invited to bring homemade cookies to the open house. Any left over will be taken to a VA hospital.
