Planning for the Ice Festival in Lewisburg

— LEWISBURG — Members of the Lewisburg Sunset Rotary Club met recently to finalize plans for the Feb. 1 Ice Festival activities in downtown Lewisburg. Coordinating with the Downtown Lewisburg Partnership, Sunset Rotary has provided a wide variety of inside and outside activities during the annual ice festival festivities for seven years. The Third Annual Frosty 5K Run and Walk event will start Lewisburg Sunset Rotary Club’s events on Feb. 1. Event day registration begins at The Campus Theater at 8:30 a.m. Day of event registration is $30. To preregister and save (cost $25) go to the website: The Frosty 5K start is 10 a.m. with awards and prizes given out at 11 a.m. Gifts will be given to the first 200 pre-registered participants. This year, the best overall top male and top female finisher will each receive a $100 gift certificate provided by the new “Inside Track” store that recently opened on Market Street in downtown Lewisburg.

Back by popular demand, the Sunset Rotary will hold free children’s games in Hufnagle Park, on Market Street between South Sixth and South Fifth streets. A variety of winter, outside activities are featured with favorites returning and a few new games this year including snowball throw, ice fishing, snow golf, birdfeeder making, snow bubbles and more. Everyone has a great time participating in the cold weather, outside family-fun events. Weather depending, activities will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Hufnagle Park.

For the seventh year, Sunset Rotary will sponsor the “Frosty Kettle Chili Cook off”. Five dollars is the entrance fee into Bull Run Tap House on the corner of Market and South Sixth streets, where a variety of chilis will be available for your tasting and judging. This event starts at 11:30 a.m. and runs until 2 p.m. Who has the best chili? You be the judge. Cash prizes of $100 (first place), $50 (second place) and $25 (third place) will be awarded. Yuengling Breweries is co-sponsoring this event again this year. To add to the fun, raffle tickets are available at $2 each or 3 tickets for $5 to win a variety of great prizes including Yuengling merchandise. This event is open to the public and we invite you to enter your favorite chili in the contest. There is no fee to enter your chili.
