— After a chilly, somewhat wet end to March, the recent warm spell to help kick off the first full week of April has helped kick off most things spring ... including AYSO soccer season.
Practices are in full swing. Some teams have already held their first games -- others kick off this Saturday. The soccer fields in Middleburg have been active weeknights the past two weeks with a flurry of activity. Saturdays betwen now and early June will see the fields bursting at the seams with players, parents and extended families from teams across the region of all age groups. The West Snyder fields in Beavertown will be similarly busy.
Those in the communities that make up the Midd-West region who are looking for something to do some Saturday could do much worse than stopping in and rooting on a random group of young people who are enjoying themselves, getting plenty of exercise and learning some important life skills in teamwork, peer relations and other areas.
But it doesn't stop at soccer. Youth baseball and softball teams are hitting the diamonds, flexing their leather gloves and swinging their bats.
It is so much better than any sports you'll catch on TV over the next couple months.
