BEAVER SPRINGS — A group of volunteers has set its sights on establishing a veteran’s memorial in Spring Township.
“We’ve been talking about it for some time, maybe eight or 10 years, and now it’s in the process of moving forward,” memorial committee member Clay Henry said.
The town of about 1,560 residents has several hundred past and present veterans who have served the country and Henry said many want to establish a memorial honoring them.
“We’re a very close-knit, patriotic community and feel strongly toward our brothers-in-arms, both male and female,” said Henry, an Army Reserve veteran.
The stone-style monument will cost about $12,000 and fundraising events are being coordinated, he said.
The memorial will be erected on property recently purchased by the township in Beaver Springs along Route 522 on the north side of the Little League field.
“I’d like to see it by Memorial Day 2014,” Henry said.
