Midd-West region activities for Friday, Saturday and Sunday, June 14-16, include:
RELAY FOR LIFE, Beaver Springs: The theme for the ninth annual Midd-West Relay for Life event is "Planting Seeds of Hope To Grow a Cure for Tomorrow." Opening ceremonies begin at 4 p.m. at Beaver Fairgrounds. A Chinese auction will be held. Tickets for the Chinese auction sold from 4:30-8:30 p.m. Drawing at 2 p.m. Saturday. The Survivor ceremony begins at 5:30 p.m. The Survivors’ Lap follows at 6. The Fight Back ceremony begins at 8 p.m. and the Luminaria ceremony at 9 p.m. Children’s activities include a Scavenger Hunt, for ages 5-15, at 7 p.m. Bounce houses, children’s games, and a puppet show at 6:15 p.m. More details available at www.relayforlife.org/pamiddw
CARNIVAL, Freeburg: Freeburg Firemen’s Carnival held at the carnival grounds. Food available at 4 p.m. Rides open at 6 p.m. Entertainment at 7 p.m. by Chance. Ride wrist bands available.
BINGO, Penns Creek: Bingo, Penns Creek Volunteer Fire Company. Doors open at 5 p.m. with games at 6:30. Kitchen open.
BLOOD PRESSURE, FLAG & COOK DAY, Penns Creek: Penns Creek Adult Resource Center, opens at 9 a.m. Linda Klinger, registered nurse with Union/Snyder Agency on Aging will take blood pressures at 10 a.m. Free. Lunch at 11:30 and for $4 includes fish fillet, macaroni and cheese, stewed tomatoes, drink and dessert. After lunch play Rummikub, cards, table shuffleboard, work on a puzzle or chat with others. RELAY FOR LIFE, Beaver Springs: The ninth annual Midd-West Relay for Life continues at the Beaver Fairgrounds. Features a variety of entertainment, a public breakfast buffet 6-10:30 a.m. in the Memorial Building. Zumba with B.J. Wolfley held 8:30-9:45 a.m. A benefit basket auction begins at noon. A Chinese auction drawing will be held at 2 p.m. (tickets sold 8 a.m.-2 p.m.) Winners do not need to be present. The Kid Relay Olympics will begin at 10 a.m. on the West Snyder Baseball Field. BARBECUE, Beaver Springs: A backyard barbecue will be held 4-7 p.m. at Beaver Lutheran Church. Cost is $8 for adults and $5 for children ages 5 to 12. Children under 5 eat free. Menu includes: burgers, hot dogs, sausage patties with peppers and onions, baked beans, macaroni salad, chips, drink and dessert. Proceeds will benefit the youth organization of the church. Church is located along Route 522, midway between Beaver Springs and Beavertown.
DAVY JONES CELEBRATION/BED RACE, Beavertown and Beaver Springs: Davy Jones celebration at Beavertown Fire Company carnival grounds on Sassafras Street. All-you-can-eat breakfast until 11 a.m. Free concerts begin at noon, unveiling of Davy Jones Statue at 3:30 p.m. Beaver Bed Races to benefit the Middle Creek Area Community Center, will be held at the Beaver Springs Dragway beginning with "Parade of Beds" at 4:30 p.m. Pick up a ticket in Beavertown to attend the bed races for no charge.
