Girls on the Run 5K spring race

BEAVER SPRINGS — More than 300 people participated in the Girls on the Run 5K spring race recently at the Middlecreek Area Community Center in Beaver Springs. The 5K race wraps up the spring session of Girls on the Run in schools in the Midd-West, Selinsgrove, Lewisburg and Mifflinburg area school districts. Girls in grades 3-5 participate in the program, which teaches them about important topics including self-esteem, peer pressure, bullying and body image. Girls in grades 6-8 can also participate in a program called Girls on Track.

This spring’s race was supported by a grant from Evangelical Community Hospital in Lewisburg. The hospital donated $2,000 to Girls on the Run and was the premier sponsor for the race. President and CEO at Evangelical Community Hospital, Michael O’Keefe said, “We are very proud to support the Girls on the Run program. It’s not only for the individual development of the young women, but also just sets a great example in the community.”

O’Keefe continued, “We are very pleased to help promote health and wellness. I think this was great because the program helps with the physical, mental and emotional development of the girls.”

Girls on the Run will begin again in the fall when students return to school after their summer break. To find out more about Girls on the Run and Girls on Track, visit the website www.girlsontherunsusquehannavalley.org.
