MIDDLEBURG — A second fiscal officer has been added to the Snyder County Children and Youth staff.
The county commissioners Tuesday approved the hiring of John D. Gibboney at the hourly rate of $13.70 for a 37.5-hour work week.
The board had resisted reviving the position, which was axed during broad budget cuts a few years ago, but relented at agency Administrator Rose Weir’s persistence.
“The position was furloughed with budget cuts a few years ago, but the intention was always to fill it,” Weir said.
The agency has one fiscal technician, but needs a second to handle the rising amount of paperwork required by the state and federal governments.
“We have to track all the money, to the penny,” Weir said.
County board Chairman Joe Kantz was in the minority in opposing the second fiscal technician position during last week’s salary board meeting.
On Tuesday, he supported Gibboney’s hiring.
“From what I’ve seen, he’s qualified for the job, and I’m not going to upset the apple cart now that he’s been hired,” Kantz said.
