— MIDDLEBURG — A vacant building adjacent the Snyder County Courthouse is expected to be razed by the end of the year.

The county commissioners plan to award the demolition contract to Dennis Sprenkle, of Middleburg, for $12,500.

It was the lowest bid submitted among two offers. The other bid was more than double, at $28,000.

Board Chairman Joe Kantz said a final decision will be made in early August and Sprenkle likely will begin dismantling the unused building, which once housed Children and Youth Services and other county offices, by the end of the month.

Sprenkle will have four months to raze the building, and afterward, he will fill in the land and reseed it. The property will be maintained by the county as open green space.

In other business Tuesday, the commissioners met for 25 minutes in executive session to discuss a contractual issue and potential litigation. No action was taken.
